Staff structure: The Blood Transfusion Department of the hospital was established in January 2006, and its predecessor was the blood bank of the Laboratory Department. At present, there are 7 staff members in the Blood Transfusion Department, including 1 senior technical title, 3 intermediate technical titles, 4 junior titles; among them, 5 have undergraduate degrees, 1 has a speciality degree, and 1 has a secondary school degree. In order to meet the future business development needs, our department will strengthen the talent training and construction, with a variety of learning methods to create a learning atmosphere in the department, to establish a solid theoretical foundation of professional and technical staff, to provide each employee with a platform for learning and performance, there is a reasonable quality of the talent echelon, to protect the next stage of the work of the smooth implementation of the application of the ‘people-oriented’ approach, to better serve the interests of the patients, and to ensure the smooth implementation of the work of the department.    Functions of the department: Blood Transfusion Department is one of the functional departments to ensure the safety of blood transfusion for patients, and the number of safe ways to use is an indicator to evaluate the safety of blood transfusion for recipients. The establishment of the Department of Blood Transfusion has laid down the direction of its future development, that is, to achieve the purpose of safe blood transfusion through the use of a variety of safe methods to minimise the risk of immunity and transfusion infectious diseases arising from blood transfusion, and to provide patients with a safe platform for receiving other treatments in the future (transplantation, blood transfusion of rare blood types). The main duties of this department are to ensure the supply of clinical blood in Liaocheng Second People's Hospital, to cooperate with the clinic to carry out component blood transfusion and blood transfusion therapy, to carry out scientific research on blood transfusion medicine, and to promote the application of new blood transfusion technology. It mainly provides blood components such as suspended red blood cells, concentrated red blood cells, washed red blood cells, red blood cells with fewer leukocytes, de-glycerolised red blood cells, machine-collected platelets, fresh frozen plasma, ordinary frozen plasma, cold precipitation and other blood components for clinical use.
   Instruments and equipments: the main instruments and equipments are: one blood type automatic analyser of Switzerland Hamilton, two special refrigerators for blood storage; two low-temperature refrigerators below -20 degrees Celsius; four ordinary refrigerators; one thermostatic circulating defrosting box; one platelet thermostatic oscillating preservation box; one water bath box; three centrifuges specially for blood dispensing; two immune micro-column incubators; two ordinary centrifuges; one microscope; one thermo-ligature; and one microcomputer monitoring system for blood. Management system cold chain monitoring system and other equipment.
   Main items: microcolumn method of ABO blood group positive and negative stereotyping and Rh(D) blood group stereotyping test, polyglutamine cross-matching test, microcolumn method of cross-matching test, detection of irregular antibodies, direct anti-human globulin test, indirect anti-human globulin test, detection of haemolytic disease in newborns, and detection of prenatal antibody potency in pregnant women. It provides effective basis for clinical diagnosis. The blood transfusion department has achieved computer management: the procedures of blood in and out of the department, basic information of patients, blood transfusion test, cross-matching, blood distribution, 24-hour monitoring of cold chain, etc. are all computer managed.      
   In addition to carrying out the above pre-transfusion examination items routinely, the Blood Transfusion Department of our hospital also provides the clinic with scientific, safe and effective blood transfusion related concepts, which serves as a guide for the clinic to reasonably use component blood transfusion therapy. It also ensures the safety of blood transfusion for patients coming to our hospital.
   Development direction: The Department of Blood Transfusion will always take safe blood transfusion therapy as the development direction. In recent years, it focuses on autologous blood transfusion. As well as platelet antibody test, coagulation factor test, identification of difficult blood groups, providing scientific basis for the diagnosis and treatment of DIC and haemophilia. Through the solution of red blood cell blood grouping system that has been used now, irregular antibodies other than ABO blood group can be detected, the immune risk of patients due to blood transfusion can be reduced, and the inefficiency of platelet transfusion and non-haemolytic febrile reaction can be reduced. Gradually carry out platelet matching transfusion to fundamentally solve the problem of ineffective clinical platelet transfusion. Complete the problem of matching transfusion of three blood group systems. Avoiding the problem of adverse reactions and ineffective transfusion of blood recipients due to body immunity after blood transfusion from the most primitive basis.
  In 2011, our hospital was awarded ‘Advanced Unit of Blood Transfusion Management’ by Liaocheng City, and the Director of Blood Transfusion Department was awarded ‘Advanced Individual of Clinical Blood Transfusion Work in the City’ in the same year. Participating in the clinical testing centre of the Ministry of Health clinical testing inter-laboratory quality control every year through the rate is 100%.
  Under the leadership of the hospital leaders and the Blood Transfusion Management Committee, the Blood Transfusion Department takes the Ministry of Health's ‘Measures for the Management of Clinical Blood Use in Medical Institutions’, ‘Clinical Blood Transfusion Technical Standards’ and ‘Basic Standards for Blood Transfusion Departments of Hospitals in Shandong Province’ as the guiding ideology and the construction standards.
