The Department of Reproductive Endocrinology was established in September 1999 and is one of the first 13 professional medical institutions in Shandong Province to carry out assisted human reproduction technology. It is one of the first 13 professional medical institutions in Shandong Province to carry out human assisted reproduction technology. It is a national qualification unit for in vitro fertilisation-embryo transfer and intracytoplasmic single sperm microinjection (i.e., one-generation and two-generation in vitro fertilization), and sperm insemination. The department is located on the fourth floor of the outpatient clinic of Huamei Hospital, Liaocheng Second People's Hospital, with an area of about 1,200 square metres. It has male and female outpatient clinics, male laboratory, hysteroscopy operating room, egg collection room, transplantation room and embryo culture room. The embryo laboratory has first-class assisted reproduction equipments in China, including American GE vaginal ultrasound, sperm analyser, Olympus inverted microscope, stereo microscope, Swiss IVF workstation, and German embryo incubator. There are 16 staff members in the centre, including 5 with senior titles and 5 with postgraduate degrees. All medical and nursing staff have received formal training from the National Reproductive Training Base and have long-term clinical experience in assisted reproduction. Every year, the centre treats more than 30,000 infertility patients.
