The Department of Pathology was established on 28 February 1961, and now has automatic immunohistochemical staining machine, in situ hybridisation, flow cytometry, automatic dewatering machine, automatic staining and sealing machine, frozen sectioning machine, embedding machine, pathological sectioning machine, fluorescence microscope, five-people viewing microscope, ten-people viewing microscope and high-quality microscopes, and pathology image analysis system. It can meet the needs of routine pathology, cytology, immunohistochemistry and some molecular pathology.

    The department now has 19 people, including 1 doctoral degree, 8 master's degree, 12 diagnostic physicians, including 5 deputy chief physicians and 7 attending physicians, and 7 technicians, including 1 deputy chief technician and 6 supervising technicians.

    In addition to routine histological pathological examination, intraoperative rapid pathological examination, immunohistological and cytopathological examination, the Department of Pathology also carries out various exfoliative cytology examination, gynaecological liquid-based cytology examination, surface fine-needle aspiration cytology examination and ultrasound or CT-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology examination of deep tissue tumors and visceral tumors, etc., of which thyroid needle aspiration cytology diagnosis, cell block technology and cell block immunohistochemistry are at the national leading level; immunohistochemistry is at the national leading level; immunohistochemistry is at the national leading level. It is at the national leading level; more than 100 immunohistochemistry projects can assist in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of various difficult cases; molecular pathology laboratory has carried out projects such as cervical E6E7 mRNA, EBER in-situ hybridisation detection, tumour targeted drug gene detection, cardio-cerebral and cerebral vascular medication gene detection series, and flow cytometry projects.

    In the province's clinical pathology job skills competition held in June 2011, Bai Bin won the first prize in the pathology technology group, Ma Guangzhen won the second prize in the diagnosis group. 2021 May Pathology Department was named the provincial quality control advanced unit, Ma Guangzhen, director of the pathology of Shandong Province in the quality control of the work of the outstanding achievements, was named an advanced individual.
