In 2004, the Laser Treatment Centre for Herniated Discs of Liaocheng Second People's Hospital invested more than 2 million yuan, introduced a complete set of imported equipment, and successfully carried out Percutaneous Laser Disc Decompression PLDD for the treatment of cervical disc herniation, lumbar disc herniation and cervical vertigo, etc. and achieved excellent results. treatment of cervical disc herniation, lumbar disc herniation and cervical vertigo, and has achieved excellent results.
Cervical disc herniation, lumbar disc herniation, and cervical vertigo are common clinical diseases that bring great pain and inconvenience to people's life and work. Surgery is often required for serious cases, but the most advanced method is percutaneous laser disc decompression. Percutaneous laser disc decompression (PLDD) is a minimally invasive interventional technique that relieves or relieves nerve root compression by inserting a puncture needle through the skin into the target disc under local anesthesia, and then introducing an optical fibre to vaporize some of the nucleus pulposus tissue through the vaporizing effect of the laser, reducing the pressure in the intervertebral disc. PLDD technology has won the favour of the majority of patients and many orthopaedic surgeons due to its features of small damage, easy operation, fast recovery after surgery and in line with the development trend of modern minimally invasive surgical technology.
The centre uses the latest developed Hi-peak pulsed ND-YAG laser from Japan SLT company: pulsed laser therapeutic instrument (EPY-PP1). With a wavelength of 1064nm, a maximum output power of 13.5W, 2.8kv/pulse, and a duration of 0.4ms per pulse, the EPY-PP1 is an effective radiating optical fibre by changing the structure of the quartz material at the exit end of the optical fibre, which greatly moderates the direct emission of laser light and reduces the degree of transmittance compared with conventional optical fibres. Therefore, the laser system has the characteristics of instantaneous ablation of the nucleus pulposus without obvious thermal accumulation phenomenon, which greatly improves the safety and treatment speed of PLDD in cervical and lumbar spondylosis. Experiments have proved that the laser can make the pressure in the intervertebral disc drop by 50%, the laser heat makes the nucleus pulposus evaporate to form a cavity, the thermal change makes the tissue contract, the pressure in the intervertebral disc decreases, and indirectly lifts the compression of the nerve root, and reduces the symptoms of the nerve root. This is the basic basis for the clinical application of PLDD in the treatment of herniated disc. The laser treatment operating room of our hospital adopts the surgical purification room in accordance with international standards, and cooperates with the large multi-function C-arm fluoroscope to ensure the maximum safety of the operation and good therapeutic effect.
PLDD technology has the advantages of short treatment time, precise effect (laser knife ‘resection’ under direct X-ray vision), micro-trauma, less pain, fast recovery, etc., and the purpose of resuming normal work and life can be achieved in three to five days. PLDD is a simple and effective treatment for the most common cervical and lumbar disc herniation in daily life. Now China has applied this technology for tens of thousands of cases of cervical disc herniation, lumbar disc herniation patients relieved of pain, restored health, and went to work. This method has now become the best choice for the treatment of cervical and shoulder pain and lumbar and leg pain caused by herniated disc in developed countries such as Europe, America, Japan and Korea.
In the past two years since the establishment of this centre, experts have been sent to Japan and Beijing to study, and long-term cooperation has been established with Beijing Minimally Invasive Hospital and Yantai Development Zone Hospital, which have treated more than one hundred cases of cervical and lumbar herniated discs and cervical vertigo, and most of the patients have gained satisfactory results, and have bid farewell to the painful life of cervical, lumbar and leg pains as well as headache and vertigo from now on.
